The Moon Wants a Friend

Told in English, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese.

High, high up in the sky lived the Moon. She was round and white and glowing.

But the Moon was lonely. There was nobody up there to play with.

So she called out to the stars. Hello, stars! Will you be my friend?

The stars twinkled. Twinkle, twinkle. But they were very, very far away. Too far to hear her.

So she called out to a cloud. Hello, cloud! Will you be my friend?

But the cloud floated past. Whoosh. Clouds never stay very long.

The Moon felt sad. She looked down at the Earth, all blue and green and small.

And then... she saw something.

A little window. And in the window, a little face, looking up.

It was a child. And the child waved. Hello, Moon!

The Moon was so happy that she glowed extra bright.

Hello, little one! she said. Will you look at me tomorrow night too?

And the child said yes.

So now, every single night, the Moon comes out and looks for her friend. And her friend looks up and waves.

Can you wave at the moon tonight?

She'll be so happy to see you.
