The Sleepy Village

The sun is going down over the little village. The sky is orange, then pink, then soft dark blue.

It's time for everyone to sleep.

The cows walk slowly home. Moo. Goodnight, cows. They lie down in the warm hay.

The chickens go into their little house. Cluck, cluck. Goodnight, chickens. They tuck their heads down.

The dog turns around three times — one, two, three — and curls up by the door. Goodnight, dog.

The birds fly back to their nests. Goodnight, birds. They fold their wings.

The shopkeeper closes his shop. Click. Goodnight.

The lamps in the windows go off, one by one. This one. And this one. And that one, far away.

Now the village is dark. Now the village is quiet.

The only sound is the wind in the leaves. Shhhhh. Shhhhh.

Everybody is sleeping. The cows. The chickens. The dog. The birds.

And in a warm little bed, under a soft blanket, there is you.

Shhhhh. Goodnight, little village. Goodnight, little one.
