Parts of the body
Told in English, Telugu.
Come close, my little one. Tonight I have a song for you, and you can sing it with me. It is all about you! Your eyes, your ears, your nose, and much more.
In a little village near Rajahmundry, there lived a girl named Chinni. Every morning, Chinni said hello to her body. Yes, really! She said hello to every part.
First, she opened her eyes. Blink, blink! With her eyes, Chinni could see. She saw the orange sun peeping over the coconut trees. She saw the pretty muggu Amma had drawn by the door. Eyes help us see. Can you blink like Chinni? Blink, blink!
Then Chinni sang her little song. Eyes to see and ears to hear, A nose to smell, my body dear! Hands to clap and feet to run, Thank you, body, every one!
Next, Chinni touched her ears. Shh. Listen. With her ears, Chinni could hear. She heard the cuckoo in the mango tree. Koo, koo! She heard the temple bell far away. Ding, dong! Ears help us hear. Can you touch your ears? Good!
Then Chinni touched her nose. Sniff, sniff! What was that lovely smell? It was Amma's hot pesarattu in the kitchen! And the jasmine flowers in Ammamma's hair. A nose helps us smell. Can you sniff like Chinni? Sniff, sniff!
And Chinni sang again. Sing with me! Eyes to see and ears to hear, A nose to smell, my body dear! Hands to clap and feet to run, Thank you, body, every one!
Then Chinni opened her mouth wide. Aaah! With her mouth, she could taste and talk and smile. She tasted a sweet, juicy mango. Yum! She said, Good morning, Nanna! And she smiled a big, big smile. Her little white teeth helped her chew, and her tongue helped her taste. Can you show me your big smile?
Next came her hands. Clap, clap! With her hands, Chinni could hold things. She helped Amma carry a small steel tumbler. She held her baby brother's soft little hand. She waved bye-bye to the milkman. Hands help us hold and help. Can you clap your hands? Clap, clap!
Last of all, her feet. Stamp, stamp! With her feet, Chinni could walk and run and jump. She ran round and round the tulasi plant in the courtyard. She jumped over a little puddle. Hop! Feet help us go places. Can you wiggle your toes? Wiggle, wiggle!
Chinni sang her song one more time, loud and happy. Eyes to see and ears to hear, A nose to smell, my body dear! Hands to clap and feet to run, Thank you, body, every one!
When night came, Chinni was very tired. She had seen so much, heard so much, smelled and tasted and clapped and run all day long. She lay down on her soft mat. Ammamma stroked her hair and said, Your body worked hard today, Chinni. Now it needs a good rest.
So Chinni closed her eyes, and she whispered good night to every part. Good night, eyes. Good night, ears. Good night, nose. Good night, hands. Good night, little feet.
Now it is your turn, my dear one. Shall we say it together, very softly? Good night, eyes. Good night, ears. Good night, nose. Good night, hands. Good night, little wiggly toes. Sleep well, and tomorrow we will say hello again.
