Colours Song
Told in English, Telugu.
Hello, little one! Today we are going to sing a song about colours. Colours are everywhere. Shall we go and find them together?
This is Chinni. Chinni lives in a small village near the Godavari river, with Amma and Ammamma. One sunny morning, Chinni opened her eyes and said, "Ammamma, I want to find colours today!"
Ammamma smiled. "Then let us sing our colours song," she said. "Sing it with me, Chinni."
Colours, colours, all around, In the sky and on the ground! Look up high and look down low, Colours, colours, come and show!
First, Chinni ran to the kitchen. Amma was cutting tomatoes for the pappu. "Red!" said Chinni. "The tomato is red!" Amma laughed and put a little red bottu on Chinni's forehead.
Red, red, tomato red, A red bottu on my head!
Then Chinni went out to the garden. The marigold flowers were swaying in the breeze. They were bright and happy. "Yellow!" said Chinni. "Yellow like the sun!"
Yellow, yellow, marigold, Shining like the sun so gold!
Can you sing it too? Colours, colours, all around, in the sky and on the ground!
After that, Ammamma took Chinni to the edge of the village. There were the paddy fields, long and soft, waving like a big carpet. And look! A parrot flew over the field and sat on a mango tree. "Green!" said Chinni. "The fields are green, and the parrot is green too!"
Green, green, parrot green, The greenest fields I've ever seen!
Chinni lay down on the grass and looked up, up, up. The sky was big and wide. "Blue!" said Chinni. "The sky is blue!"
Blue, blue, the sky so blue, Big and bright and smiling too!
When they came home, Chinni saw the muggu in front of the door. Amma had drawn it in the morning with white powder. Ammamma gave Chinni a string of jasmine flowers for her hair. They smelled so sweet. "White!" said Chinni. "The muggu is white, and the jasmine is white!"
White, white, muggu white, Jasmine flowers soft and light!
Then something happened. A little cloud came and the rain began to fall, pitter patter, pitter patter. But the sun was still shining! Chinni looked up. "Ammamma, look!"
Across the sky, there was a big, beautiful curve of colours. Red and orange and yellow and green and blue and purple!
"That is a rainbow," said Ammamma. "When the sun shines and the rain falls at the same time, a rainbow comes to say hello."
Chinni clapped her hands. "All my colours are in the sky together!"
Colours, colours, all around, In the sky and on the ground! Look up high and look down low, Colours, colours, come and show!
Soon the rainbow faded, and the sun went down. The evening sky turned soft and dark, and little stars came out, twinkling like tiny lamps. Chinni lay down on her mat next to Ammamma.
"Ammamma," she whispered, "tomorrow I will find more colours."
"Yes, my Chinni," said Ammamma, stroking her hair. "The world is full of colours, waiting for you every morning."
And you too, little one. Tomorrow when you wake up, look around. What colours will you find? Red, yellow, green, blue and white. Sweet dreams.
