Numbers 1–10 Song
Told in English, Telugu.
Hello, my little one. Tonight we will sing a counting song. Hold up your hands. Wiggle your fingers. Are you ready? Here we go!
Little Chinni woke up early in Ammamma's house in the village. Ammamma smiled and said, "Chinni, today let us count everything we see." Chinni clapped her hands. "Yes, Ammamma, yes!"
And they sang together. Sing it with me!
One, two, three, count with me, Count the lovely things we see!
Chinni looked up at the sky. What did she see? One big sun, shining warm and bright. Can you hold up one finger? One!
Then Chinni ran to the cowshed. Moo, moo! Two gentle cows were munching green grass. Their names were Lakshmi and Gowri. Hold up two fingers. Two!
Ammamma gave Chinni a little basket. Under the mango tree, Chinni found yellow mangoes on the ground. One, two, three! Three sweet mangoes. Hold up three fingers. Three!
One, two, three, count with me, Count the lovely things we see!
Chinni walked to the pond. Quack, quack, quack, quack! Four white ducks were swimming in a line. Four!
Back home, Ammamma was drawing muggu in front of the door. She put down little dots. Dot, dot, dot, dot, dot. Five dots for a pretty flower. Hold up one whole hand. Five!
One, two, three, count with me, Count the lovely things we see!
In the garden, Chinni picked white jasmine flowers. One, two, three, four, five, six. Six little flowers! Ammamma tied them in Chinni's hair. Mmm, they smelled so sweet. Six!
Then Chinni put on her bangles. Clink, clink, clink! Seven shiny green bangles on her little wrist. Seven!
At lunchtime, Ammamma brought a big plate. On it were soft, white idlis for the whole family. Chinni counted them all. Eight warm idlis! Eight!
One, two, three, count with me, Count the lovely things we see!
Soon the evening came. Chinni and Ammamma sat on the terrace and looked up at the sky. The stars came out, one by one. They began to twinkle. Chinni counted carefully. Nine little stars! Nine!
Chinni yawned. "Ammamma, is there anything left to count?"
Ammamma laughed softly. "Look down, Chinni. Wiggle your feet."
Chinni looked at her feet. Wiggle, wiggle! "Ten little toes!" she giggled. Can you wiggle your toes too? Ten!
"Ammamma, I counted all the way to ten!" said Chinni.
Ammamma hugged her close. "Because you looked so carefully, you found something to count everywhere."
Now let us count together, one last time. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten! Shall we say it like Ammamma does? Okati, rendu, moodu, naalugu, aidu, aaru, edu, enimidi, tommidi, padi!
One, two, three, count with me, Count the lovely things we see! One sun, ten toes, stars up high, Now it's time to close our eyes.
Goodnight, my little counter. Goodnight.
