Little Tiger's Stripes

Told in English, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese.

Little Tiger woke up in the tall grass. She stretched her paws. She yawned a big yawn. Aaaah!

Then she looked down at herself, and she said: What are all these lines on me?

Her mother smiled. Those are your stripes, little one. Let's count them.

One stripe. Two stripes. Three stripes.

On her back — four, five, six!

On her tail — seven, eight, nine, ten!

So many stripes! said Little Tiger. Does everybody have stripes?

Let's go and see, said her mother.

They found the monkey. Do you have stripes, monkey? No! said the monkey. I have soft brown fur.

They found the elephant. Do you have stripes, elephant? No! said the elephant. I am big and grey all over.

They found the frog. Do you have stripes, frog? No! said the frog. I am green and shiny.

Little Tiger thought about that.

So... nobody else has stripes like mine?

That's right, said her mother. Your stripes are yours. Nobody in the whole jungle looks exactly like you.

And Little Tiger felt very proud, and walked through the tall grass with all ten of her beautiful stripes.
