The Monkey Who Shared

Told in English, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese.

Monkey found five bananas. Five whole bananas, all for him!

Let's count them. One, two, three, four, five. Five bananas!

Monkey sat down to eat. But then... he heard a little sound.

He looked up. There was Parrot, sitting on a branch. Parrot looked hungry.

So Monkey said: Here you are, Parrot. And he gave Parrot one banana.

Now how many did Monkey have? Four.

Then along came Rabbit. Rabbit looked hungry too.

Here you are, Rabbit! said Monkey. And he gave Rabbit one banana.

Now how many? Three.

Then came Turtle, walking very slowly. Here you are, Turtle! Two left.

Then came little Mouse. Here you are, Mouse! One left.

Monkey looked at his last banana. Just one. Was he sad?

No! Because look — Parrot was singing. Rabbit was hopping. Turtle was smiling. Mouse was squeaking happily.

All his friends were together, right there with him.

And Monkey ate his one banana, and it was the very best banana he had ever tasted.

Because sharing made everything taste better.
