The Elephant Who Couldn't Trumpet

Told in English, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese.

Little Elephant had big ears. Little Elephant had a long trunk. Little Elephant had everything an elephant needs.

But Little Elephant could not trumpet.

His mother could. PAAAAA-RRRP! Big and loud, all across the jungle.

Little Elephant took a big breath. He lifted his trunk high. And out came...

Pfff.

Oh dear. Just a tiny puff of air.

The monkeys giggled. Hoo hoo hoo!

But Little Elephant did not cry. Little Elephant tried again.

He took a bigger breath. He lifted his trunk higher. And out came...

Pffft.

Hmm. A little bit louder. But not a trumpet.

His mother said, gently: Try again tomorrow, my little one.

So the next day, he tried again. Pffft!

And the next day. Pfffrp!

And the next day. Prrrp!

And then one morning, Little Elephant took the biggest breath of his whole life. He lifted his trunk up, up, UP. And out came...

PAAAAAAA-RRRRRRP!

Oh! The birds flew up! The monkeys stopped giggling! The whole jungle heard it!

Little Elephant had done it. Not because it was easy — but because he kept trying.

Can you trumpet like Little Elephant? Paaaa-rrrp!
