My Turn, Your Turn
Told in English, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese.
There was a red ball. A lovely, bouncy red ball.
And there were two friends. Mia and Ben.
Mia wanted the ball. Ben wanted the ball.
Mine! said Mia.
Mine! said Ben.
They both pulled. Pull, pull, pull!
And nobody got to play at all. They just stood there, pulling, feeling cross.
That wasn't fun, was it?
Then Mia had an idea. She let go of the ball.
Ben, she said. Your turn first. Then my turn.
Ben bounced the ball. Boing! Boing! Boing! He counted to ten.
Then he stopped and said: Now your turn, Mia.
And Mia bounced the ball. Boing! Boing! Boing! She counted to ten too.
Then she gave it back. Your turn!
My turn. Your turn. My turn. Your turn.
And do you know what happened?
They both got to play. And they laughed and laughed, and playing together was much more fun than pulling.
So when two people want the same thing, there are three magic words. Can you say them?
My turn, your turn!
