The Tortoise and the Hare
Told in English, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese.
Come sit beside me, my dear, and let me tell you about a race that taught everyone a very important lesson. In a green, sunny forest, there lived a hare who could run incredibly fast — and boy, did he love to brag about it! Every single day, he'd tease a slow-moving tortoise, laughing at how sluggish she was. Can you imagine how tired the tortoise must have gotten of hearing that?
So one day, the tortoise had had quite enough, and she challenged the hare to a race. All the forest animals gathered around to watch — squirrels, rabbits, birds, everyone! When the race began, the hare shot off like an arrow, zooming far, far ahead. Feeling completely sure he'd already won, he thought to himself, 'I have so much time to spare,' and he curled up for a nap under a lovely shady tree.
But do you know what the tortoise did, my darling? She just kept going. One slow, steady step after another, never stopping to rest, never giving up, even though she couldn't see the hare anywhere ahead of her. And guess what happened when the hare finally woke up with a start? He looked ahead, and there she was — the tortoise, crossing the finish line, just moments before he could catch up! The whole forest cheered with delight. And that, my dear, is why we say: slow and steady wins the race. It's not about how fast you start — it's about never giving up.
